A June full of PRIDE

June is a month during which we are bursting with pride about all the different ways members of our community are growing, finding thier voices and finding success. Last year, our grade 7 class created our rainbow staircase outside our school in our covered area. Proclaiming the welcome we extend to all who come to Douglas Road, that staricase is the most prominent feature of this space visitors pass & where members of our community gather through the day and for special events. As if inspired by the students who left last year,  the Douglas Road Diversity Club had its inaugeration in 2021-2022, and the students who joined and attended weekly meetings throughout the year are a tribute to the continuing growth of our community.

Diversity Club is open to all students in grades 5, 6, or 7 who are interested in creating & being part of a group sharing a safe, comfortable space where students can ask questions, connect, and learn together. While the group’s most significant contributions may have been something witnessed in-person mostly by those who shared and maintained that safe, comfortable space, our whole community becomes safer and more stable thanks to their work. We offer particular thanks to Ms. K. Bromley for giving her time, good energy and strong support to this group of students (and thus to all of us).

And so it was with PRIDE that we raised our new Progress Pride Flag in celebration of Pride Month and of another year of progress here at Douglas Road.
